Our Special Needs Cats

Cats with special needs need love and homes, too. Most are adoring and completely unaware they have any condition which some might think makes them "imperfect." They are perfect in their own way. They adapt and they make lovely companions. Please consider making a place in your heart and your home for one of these darlings.

Gucci
Gucci is now back with Kitty Save. She was adopted once, but her family said that she was too "needy" for their lifestyle. She wanted lots of attention too often. She is indeed a cuddler and is ready to hop into bed when you are.

This cat is sweet, sweet, sweet! She is one of the most adorable, loving kitties you will encounter for a long time. She is eager for attention. Her purr motor has no volume control. She make muffins as if that's her job and she wants to do it well. She's an angelic gray tabby with lots of warm ways and an adoring nature. Gucci was born in foster care but within three months, we knew she was having difficulty with the tissues around her mouth. Part of her nose is now missing because she rubbed it so much on the cage door. Diagnosis: eosinophilic granuloma. She is allergic to a lot of things. She cannot have plastic food and water bowls. She requires a special diet, which she really likes, by the way. She also requires the occasional steroid shot. And none of this has ever dampened her spirits. She is so positive in all that she does, and for this reason, we chose to put her up for adoption knowing the family that makes her their own will never regret it. Right now, she has to live in a large crate -- it's her own little apartment that she cannot leave for very long, lest she come into contact with plastic food and water bowls or take a nibble of food she shouldn't eat. She rolls around and enjoys all the hugs and attention she gets when she is permitted to sit down with her foster family.

Gucci is a class kitty, no doubt. She needs a family that can recognize when she needs her steroid shot and can keep her on her special diet. It would be best if there were no other kitties and no doggies in the household, so she won't be tempted to nibble what she shouldn't. But if you are willing to let the other cat enjoy Gucci's special diet, Gucci is willing to share. She gets along with other cats and enjoys those mutual-grooming sessions. Please us if you would like to know more about this special gal.
Sophie
SOPHIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Sophie has often been presented for adoption. She is a beautiful lady with quiet manners, and visitors often inquire about her. But -- when they hear that she is 11 years old, we hear: "Oh -- we don't want a cat THAT old!" They turn away, snub her, and never give her a second thought. Sophie sits there nonplussed. "That old"? Why not take a moment to see this whole adoption thing from Sophie's point of view. This grand lady came to us with a blind companion who quietly passed away one day. She had been his "seeing eye" kitty. For many weeks, she grieved. She would pick at her food. She wouldn't leave her bed and basket. She wasn't into getting lots of attention. Eventually, time healed her wounds and she began to take interest in all that was around her. She meows for attention, likes to curl up quietly beside her foster parent, and takes great delight in a can of wet food now and then. Sophie needs a loving pet parent to dote on her and care for her, giving her a home and comfort for the remaining years of her life. She would sure like to have someone to call her own and love on.

Sophie is front-declawed, of good weight, great temperament, and healthy. In all her time in foster care, she has never had a cold, tummy upset, or other medical issue. She had been well cared for by her previous pet parent who became terminally ill. For her new pet parent, Sophie comes with three large bags of premium senior cat food and medical care for 30 days. Please us if you would like to know more about this special lady.

Varoom
Varoom has been adopted!
Varoom loves to curl up in cozy beds, play with toys, and even roughhouse a bit with other kittens. He enjoys attention but isn't pushy about getting it. Although he enjoys kitty company, he'll come around to pester you if he feels neglected. He is a special needs cat in that he has lost an eye. He suffered viral conjunctivitis very early on and probably carried it with him when he was found. He will probably carry the potential for eye infections for the rest of his life. His remaining eye reddens when he is stressed. Varoom was dumped at the Vista Ridge Mall parking lot. Hence, his name VaRooM. Someone brought him to us. We hope to place this handsome little boy in a home with no other cats or in a home where the other cats also have the potential for conjunctivitis.

Greta
Greta has been adopted!
Greta is one of those kittens you never forget. She looks at you directly. Her eyes drill right into you then she meows. She meows so loudly you can’t believe that something like that could come from something so tiny. Oh, but it does. And she just carries on a long conversation with anyone or anything. She’s actually a beautiful tortie with all the signs of growing up into a major diva. She isn’t too keen on having other cats around but she gets used to them after a while. She is a special needs kitten in that she is missing the lower half of her right back leg. Greta does fine. She likes playing with stationary toys that she can bat around. She gets up and walks around. She’s fine with climbing into her litter box. She can hop up onto the bed. When she runs down the hall, she runs at an angle but she gets where she's going faster than most! She's like a little brown streak racing along the floor. We don’t think she knows her back foot is missing and there’s no point in telling her.

This little girl needs a home that is safe for tiny creatures, with no children under six. She would do well as an only kitty. She hisses at other cats at first, but eventually, she accepts that they are there to stay. If she were the only kitty, it would be difficult to introduce another to her later. She establishes herself with lots of: "Mine! Mine! Mine!" She's a confident little gal.
